Settings: Mawu Dark Mode

Settings → Mawu Dark Mode has one job: controlling the few things your own admin profile can’t, mainly the login screen, which has no logged-in user to read a theme preference from. Here’s what each option actually does.

Block editor dark mode

On by default. Controls whether the block editor’s writing canvas gets dark styling. The surrounding chrome, toolbar and sidebar, follows your active color scheme automatically regardless of this setting; this toggle is specifically about the canvas itself, the area you’re actually typing into.

Classic Editor dark mode

On by default, and only relevant if the Classic Editor plugin is active. Controls dark styling for the TinyMCE writing area. As with the block editor, the surrounding toolbar chrome follows your active scheme automatically; this setting is specifically about the content area inside the editor.

Login screen dark mode

Off by default. Turns on dark styling for wp-login.php. This is off by default deliberately: it’s the one screen every visitor sees whether or not they have an account, so it isn’t switched on automatically the way the logged-in-only settings above are.

Login screen theme

Once login dark mode is on, this picker chooses which theme applies to that screen. Because wp-login.php has no logged-in user, it can’t read anyone’s individual profile preference, so this is a separate, explicit choice rather than following whichever theme you personally use once logged in.

What’s no longer here

An earlier version of Mawu had a site-wide “Force for everyone” setting that could override every admin’s own profile choice. It was removed entirely in version 0.6.0 in favor of fully per-user theme selection. If you’re looking for a way to standardize the dashboard/editor theme across every admin account, that option no longer exists; each admin sets their own from Users → Profile.

See choosing your color scheme for where the per-user picker actually lives.
