Does Mawu Affect My Site’s Visitors?

Short answer: no, not yet. Mawu is currently a wp-admin plugin only. Here’s exactly what that means and why it’s scoped that way for now.

What Mawu touches today

Everything Mawu does happens behind the login screen: the dashboard, the block editor, the Classic Editor, the Customizer, and (optionally) wp-login.php itself. A logged-out visitor browsing your actual site, reading a post, viewing a product page, filling out a contact form, sees nothing different. Mawu adds no CSS, no JavaScript, and no visible change anywhere on your site’s public pages.

Why admin-only, for now

Frontend dark mode is a genuinely different problem: every theme’s own markup, CSS, and color choices vary wildly, in a way wp-admin’s comparatively stable structure doesn’t. Getting that right across arbitrary themes is real, separate work, not an extension of the same technique Mawu already uses for wp-admin.

A frontend toggle is planned

It’s on the roadmap, not ruled out. It’s also the reason behind the name: Mawu is the moon and night goddess in Fon/Ewe mythology, twin sister to Lisa, the sun and day god. If a frontend light/dark toggle is added, “Lisa” is the natural name for the light-mode counterpart, a naming decision already made in anticipation of that feature, even though the feature itself isn’t built yet.
